Lourdes Durham, LPC-S, Registered Play Therapist- Supervisor

Founder and Director

I graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with my Bachelor's degree dual in Psychology and Communication in 2003 and continued with my Master's degree in Counseling.

My internship experiences led me to work with at-risk youth and their families in the community as well as in psychiatric and residential institutions. While working with this population I realized that no matter the age of the client, we all have traumatic experiences that shape us and make us stronger, however, some people may never overcome these experiences and get stuck.

After learning about trauma and working with children, adolescents, and adults with high risk behavioral and emotional disorders I decided to become a certified hypnotherapist and to become trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) as well as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to help people work through the traumatic experiences and overcome those challenges that get the stuck in life, embrace the past and mover forward into the future by bringing meaning to their life experiences. I had the amazing opportunity to get trained on CPT through the Strong Star Training Initiative and Patricia Resick, PhD, the creator of this model.

Working with children and adolescents inclined me to become a Registered Play Therapist in order to learn children's language and help them process their emotions, feelings and experiences in a safe and nurturing environment, as well as helping parents and families.

My areas of specialty include trauma ( I am trained in TF-CBT, EMDR and Cognitive Processing Therapy), dissociative identity disorder (DID), borderline personality disorder, grief and loss, low self-esteem, relationship issues, women's issues, PTSD and many more. I love my job, watching people grow and overcome challenges is amazing and I have no words to describe how I feel when people allow me to be part of that journey with them.

I was born in Mexico City, I am fully bilingual and all my services are provided in English and Spanish. I feel proud to say that I not only speak the language but I am bicultural as well, meaning I understand the cultural differences and backgrounds.

When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

Research has demonstrated how pets in therapy may help clients with their mental and emotional well-being. Just like any other form of treatment, animal assisted therapy is tailored to the needs of each person.

Pets are used to benefit patients suffering with emotional and behavioral disorders. Animals accept us as we are so people can interact with them in a safe place.  People may find it difficult to open up and trust at the beginning of therapy, but discover this process is much easier with a therapy animal. Frequently reported include a reduction in stress, a boost in self-esteem, improved mood, and better communication skills.

Camilla is very loving and accepting, can be hyper and playful and enjoys meeting new people.
Please let us know if you are interested in having Camilla as part of your therapy sessions.
