What to Expect in Individual Therapy with Julie
Identifying Patterns: Together we will explore how your survival mechanisms (strategies) have helped you, but also may be holding you back, creating a feeling of being “stuck.” Many of these strategies begin in early childhood.
Skill Building: In session and over time, you will learn healthy coping mechanisms for stress, anxiety, and depression, even healthy ways to express anger! You can learn to understand and regulate your nervous system. A big part of healing from anxiety and depression is knowing what your body is doing and why. You can also learn better skills in communication, including finding your voice and setting appropriate boundaries in relationships.
Processing Experiences -Pacing is very important in therapy! I never want to move faster than is safe and comfortable for you. When it feels appropriate, together we can work through past traumas or significant life experiences in a structured way to bring more regulation to your nervous system and reduce distressing symptoms.
